On July 25, 2010, our graduate
Bella Xalova died in a traffic accident in her home village of Psyzh near the city of Cherkessk. She was hit by a car while crossing a motorway. She was 26 years old.
The staff of the Caucasus Institute was devastated by the news of her death. She had been a wonderful student who had curiosity and motivation, enjoyed studying, working and traveling, and loved to think. At 26, she was a well-known journalist.
We shall always remember her. Our hearts go out to her family and friends.

On May 26 the Caucasus Institute, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, was organizing a round table on the theme Financial System and Economic Development. The speaker was Dr. Hilton Root, an academic and policy specialist in international political economy and development from the School of Public Policy at George Mason University.
The roundtable is part of a series of expert discussions and public debates organized by the CI in the framework of a project supported by the South Caucasus Bureau of the Heinrich Böll Foundation and aimed at focusing the public discourse in Armenia at crucial issues of regional development.
CAUCASUS 2009 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 10:00,May 21-22, 2010, Caucasus Institute 
On May 21-22, 2010 the Caucasus Institute held the Caucasus-2009 International Conference in Tigran Mets Hall, Armenia Marriott Hotel, Yerevan. Registration started at 10:00 a.m. on May 21.
The conference sum up the year 2009 in the Caucasus. Participants were scholars, journalists and public activists from Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, Russia and European states. Topics for discussion were the political, social and economic development of the North and South Caucasus in 2009; US, European, Turkish and Russian policies in the Caucasus in 2009; unrecognized states and ethnopolitical conflicts in the Caucasus; regional security in the South Caucasus.

On April 27, 2010, at 4 p.m., the Caucasus Institute held a roundtable and presentation of its Policy Brief on Armenia and the Armenians, Turkey and the Turks in Armenian Media Coverage. The roundtable started with a presentation by the head of the research team Hrant Mikaelyan, followed by a discussion of Armenian-Turkish relations and perceptions thereof.

On March 25, 2010, at 4 p.m., the Caucasus Institute helds a roundtable on Current Social and Political Developments in Georgia. The roundtable started with a presentation by prominent analyst Paata Zakareishvili, Head of the Institute for the Study of Nationalism and Peace, Tbilisi. The presentation followed by a discussion of current trends and development prospects in the domestic and foreign policy of Georgia. Participants will be scholars, public activists, journalists, diplomats, representatives of international organizations and NGOs.

ARMENIAN DIASPORA:ESSAYS ON SOCIOCULTURAL TYPOLOGYBOOK PRESENTATION 15:00 March 23, 2010, Caucasus Institute
On March 23, 2010 at 3 p.m. the Caucasus Institute presented its newly published Russian-language volume, Armenian Diaspora: Essays on Sociocultural Typology. The presentation followed by a roundtable discussion on the role of the Armenian Diaspora in Armenian society and politics.The volume is the result of a joint study by Dr Viktor Dyatlov, an expert on Diaspora theory, and Dr Eduard Melkonian, an expert on the history of the Armenian Diaspora.
